Screening Liberally presents: OutFOXed
Fight Media Consolidation with Screening Liberally and OutFoxed)
How did Jon Stewart come to be the most trusted anchor in the news business? Since when is tracking down Michael Jacksons monkey news? And why is CNN delegating its reporting to Twitterers?
While viewers across the political spectrum are convinced the news just isnt as good as it used to be, few of us can pinpoint exactly when it happened and why. Screening Liberally shakes its fist at the TV and asks Whats wrong with news these days? in the second installment of the Journalism in Film series.
Join Screening Liberally August 12th 7:30PM at The Tank for a special screening of OutFoxed: Rupert Murdochs War on Journalism. Documentarian Robert Greenwald takes on the fear-mongering and aggressive right-wing rhetoric that passes for news at Fox News by examining the networks tactics and on-air personalities. Using internal memorandums and insider accounts, OutFoxed definitively debunks the fair and balanced myth as little more than a disingenuous branding strategy.
The film will be followed by a panel discussion on fighting media consolidation with Josh Stearns of Free Press. Josh has worked on ChallengeBigMedia.com and SavetheNews.org to encourage media diversity and combat ownership effects. Come find out how infotainment and celebrity obsession became the norm for nightly news and what you can do to fight back.
And from 6pm onward, join a Progressive Mixer for Staff and Interns from different local organizations.
Screening Liberally creates a community around films that tackle progressive politics and social issues. It is part of the Living Liberally national network of progressive social clubs.
