Backline Records Presents, Jacob Merlin: "Alchemy of Soul" Record Release Party
After three years since the last release, Jacob Merlin has worked tirelessly on an album that he can finally call a masterpiece! Long awaited, this CD will be the product of six long months in the studio with help from some very big names! Mic Gillette of Tower of Power fame, joined the group to help arrange and record the blazing horn parts and lay down some very tasty solos. Portland Music Awards Female Artist of the Year, Kristina Rae, also lent her talents and added her voice to Jacob's to create amazing harmonies as a background vocalist. Debra Arlyn, PMA's Female Artist of the Year 2007, also joined the group to add her voice as well, and brought a warmth of soul and style with her performance.
Finally, the day has arrived to release this masterpiece to the public, and that day is September 19th 2009. The doors will open at 6pm at the Bossa Nova (722 E Burnside Portland, OR) to a night of local art and talent. Backline Records, a co-op record label here in Portland, will be supporting the show by bringing in these incredible talents. Dream Killer and Travis Williams will play in satellite locations around the venue as models will supply the visual beauty as they don the newest clothing line from April Anson, "Worn & Refind".
As fans and patrons get settled with their specialty cocktails, The Alchemist (a version of the Long Island Iced Tea), Merlin Mohitos, and Soul Shots (jello is good for the soul!), Kristina Rae will take the stage and set the mood with original soulful R&B tunes. At 8:15pm, her mystically charged voice and seductive melodies will entice the crowd and lead them in to a center stage that soon will be lit up in a fury of funk and grooves...
9pm, the stage goes dark, something's about to happen... Keegan Smith explodes in light and sound with a furious energy of funk hip-hop with professional lights programed to every beat and sound! With his 8 piece original band, Keegan took home the Best New Artist of the Year at the PMA's last year, and will bring this funktabulous show to set the energy level for the grand finale!
9:45, and it's dark once more... A strange and haunting funk song fills the darkened air as silhouettes move across the stage. All at once, lights come up and there they are, Jacob Merlin!!! With his 7 piece horn band, Jacob takes the show to the next and final level of excitement as the group reigns down a fiery funk-fueled rampage complimented by the best sound and light crew in Portland. They feed the funk to the fickle feet of each person in the crowd as the room erupts into a dance party! After an hour show of an amazing lineup of musicianship and talent, Jacob Merlin finishes the night with a touching gospel number he wrote for a friend who passed last year featuring background vocals from Kristina Rae and the girls from Acoustic Minds. As the night winds down, the bands all come forward to take a bow and meet and greet fans and family. And yes, maybe celebrate with a drink or two themselves!!
Mark your calendar, and make sure you don't miss this incredible night of music, art, lights, and dancing that will be the talk of the town on Monday! Purchase your tickets early for a discounted rate, kids under 12 get in for free, and bring a student ID for a student discount price. Tickets will go quickly, so don't delay!!!
