Power Trip / theatrically berkeley
Pacific Film Archive Berkeley, CA
Power Trip is the story of Berkeley California , a city that set out to be a leading force in the fight against global warming. In 2006 The City of Berkeley passed Measure G with an overwhelming 81% voter approval. This measure while void of specifics set a clear aggressive goal of an 80% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2050. 'I believe this is a movement' says Mayor Tom Bates.
This film intended to follow Berkeley leadership from City Hall to the grass roots as they blaze a path to success, and set an example for the nation. But, as the story unfolds, various outspoken characters come to the forefront bringing to light a plethora of issues and brewing movements with what is perceived to be the passion of the people in every instance. Seemingly unrelated battled grounds are laid out all over the city, and only over time are revealed to be an entangled web of activism and animosity, with deep back stories and recycled faces.
