Dangerous Neighbors - Guns, Gadgets and Guilt
A family immersed in its mobile devices fails to notice a string of births, deaths and divorces within its ranks. A griefless widow finds love and song in the showroom of an innovative crematory urn designer. A disgraced politician plots his redemption even as the media releases an immense video catalog of his multifarious debaucheries. A disturbed cult leader shopping for his doomsday arsenal at Earl's 24 Hour Guns 'n' Grog is interrupted by a parade of edgy gun buyers. Henchmen for a famous comic book super hero villain come to grips with their limited career horizons. A band of cheerful Satanists labor to improve the Dark Lord's image with song and party games.
The Bay Area's sketch comedy juggernaut Dangerous Neighbors makes its third straight appearance in the Santa Cruz Fringe Festival with a new collection of sketches highlighting the country's neurotic fixation with guns, gadgets, God and guilt. The troupe has been assaulting the sensibilities of the Bay Area for twenty years and has appeared in theaters, nightclubs, universities, academic conferences, benefits, festivals, and for professional organizations throughout the Bay Area. "If satire were a weapon," the Santa Cruz Sentinel's Wallace Baine wrote, "Dangerous Neighbors would be a heavily armed Doomsday cult." And they have mercilessly blasted away at sensitive subjects with a depraved abandon, appalling audiences of all socioeconomic backgrounds. "Each skit offers a sick and sometimes twisted glimpse of an absurd universe, and divides the audience into two camps," observed the Metro's Sarah Phelan, "those of the shocked gasps and those of the booming belly laughs." Which camp will you be in?
