The Flesh Hungry Dog Show
An uber-inclusive, alterna-queer, mini-rock extravaganza and Possibly the most diverse scene in the city. --Time Out Chicago
one of the musical underground's most vibrant and diverse club nightsJim DeRogatis, Chicago Sun-Times
On Friday, June 5th 2009, The Flesh Hungry Dog Show presents three unique urban bands with distinctly different styles and approaches to their music. The Beazley Phillips Band (a Flesh Hungry Dog Show favorite) returns to our stage with his own original take on the piano rock traditions of early Elton John, Stevie Wonder and Ben Folds. Also appearing are post-punk, dark-wave influenced band On We, and New York import, singer-songwriter A.J. Shanti, who has just finished a European tour. The show also features The Bag of Fun prize giveaways from The Pleasure Chest, special guest performer Ms Bea Haven (of Girlie-Q Burlesque). DJ Sky spins between the bands, and Chicago rock impresario Gary Airedale hosts.
The Flesh Hungry Dog Show starts at 9:00 p.m. on Friday, June 5th, 2009 at Jackhammer (773-743-5772), 6406 N. Clark St. in Chicago. Jackhammer is a 21+ venue. Tickets are $10 and are available at the door, or online at www.fleshhungrydog.com.
The mission of The Flesh Hungry Dog Show is to bring live rock and related musical forms to Chicago's gay community, and to provide a fun, alternative venue for bands with GLBT content and members, and bands that are GLBT supportive.
The Beazley Phillips Band
The Beazley Phillips Band crafts dynamic performances that are often compared to early Elton John and Ben Folds Five. The groups three-man lineup breaks the rules of the guitar-based, traditional rock format using bass, drums, and strident blues-rock piano along with folk rock harmonies.
Original material from both their studio albums, Shooting Ghosts and 2008s Bring the Angels Down, range from intensely personal, brooding ballads to raucous, driving piano rock with clear influences of blues, gospel and retro, 1970s, classic rock - as one reviewer wrote, Beazley definitely listened to his parents 1970s record collection. Shooting Ghosts has been featured on RollingStone.com, Superstarcastic and MotherJones.com and is plugged as one of Rhapsodys most requested new CDs in 2007 and the band continues a busy touring schedule playing venues from the east coast, Midwest and Canada.
Singer Bridget O'Callaghan and On We serve up their own infectious brand of "Dark Wave" and "Acid Post Punk" with an emphasis on writing memorable songs. This band is not a one trick pony. Their java infused live shows will captivate you from the first song to their last.
"A.J. Shanti, a singer-songwriter from New York has recently released her debut album Baby Beau Blue, promoted it on her successful first tour of Europe and is now touring the East Cost accompanied by a Croatian musician Dora Benc. A.J.s raw and emotional tunes cut at issues of love, pain and queer revolution."
