Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey~~~Yojimbo ~~~ Bum And Possum Combination
~~~~~~~~~~~~Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey~~~~~~~~~
Over the course of 20 years, 22 albums, and countless tours around the world, Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey has become an institution in modern music. With their unique approach, JFJO has created a devoted following of music lovers and critics alike. Defined by evolution and change, the band has invented it's own improvisatory language, one which permeates JFJO's sound regardless of configuration. Though there is no Jacob or Fred, the last 20 years have been a Jazz Odyssey. Beginning in 1994 in Tulsa, OK as a funky octet with MCs and horns, JFJO became an instrumental trio in 1999, a quartet in 2007, and expanded to a 9-piece ensemble for 2011's "Race Riot Suite." 2014 finds the band returning to the trio setting. With Brian Haas on acoustic piano/Fender Rhodes/bass Moog and synth, Chris Combs on electric guitar/lap steel and synth, and Josh Raymer on drums, JFJO is now making the most modern and immediate music of the band's career.
Yojimbo is fun! Their sound is pure punk rock energy with poppy driven melodies. You'll be powerless to do anything except dance uncontrollably with a full-on smile. Carly Meyers leads the pack down a musical rabbit hole, welding her trombone like "a mystical samurai sword". While Doc Sharp hammers the keyboards in cataclysmic pleasure, Patrick McDevitt slays his bass and Adam Gertner beats his drums to a bloody pulp with a widespread grin.
Playing gigs everywhere from local favorites such as Blue Nile, Maison, One Eyed Jack's, The Republic and the legendary Tipitina's, this band remains a constant and respected act in the city. They have headlined with artists such as Bonerama, Raekwon, JFJO, Johnny Vidacovich, James Singleton, and Mike Dillon. Carly, Adam, and Patrick also are full-time members of The Mike Dillon Band, which has been touring the country almost non-stop for the past 2 years.
While separately they have played at venues all over the nation, gigging at clubs, festivals, and arenas, when the three join forces the music is wild, versatile, and a little something else that you just gotta see to believe. Yojimbo produces an "unmistakable youthful playfulness that is infectious to all listeners and creates an instant party atmosphere"-Live Music Nola.
As one reviewer declared, "Yojimbo's the perfect blend of aggressive passion, punk rock chaos, and technical expertise."
~~~~~~~~~Bum and Possum Combination~~~~~~~~~~
Originally formed with the intent of creating noise in a spontaneous and fun environment, Bum and Possum Combination has grown into a project whose influences span all genres of art, from the free jazz improvisation of Peter Brötzmann to the surreal worlds in the films of Jean-Pierre Jeunet and all points in-between. The group takes a non-traditional approach to performing music, creating an on-the-spot interpretation of a given piece rather than relying on written and rehearsed parts to tell the story.
Bum and Possum Combination is something to be experienced. Exactly what that is is solely up to you.
