Most recent directing credits include: Daniel Bernard Roumains DARWINS MEDITATION FOR THE PEOPLE OF LINCOLN, which premiered at the Brooklyn Academy of Musics Next Wave Festival, Rosanne Cashs BLACK CADILLAC TOUR (US/Europe), Cynthia Hopkins THE SUCCESS OF FAILURE, which premiered at The Walker Art Center in April and will be presented at St. Anns Warehouse in May/June 2009 and he directed and designed video for Eillen Ivers BEYOND THE BOG ROAD (US Tour 2009-2010)
Other theater directing credits include Cynthia Hopkins ACCIDENTAL NOSTALGIA (St. Anns/ US Tour), GRAVELS SPINE and TOM, DICK AND HARRY at the Ontological Theater in NYC.
Film directing credits include: MAKE PRETEND, which he also wrote, and was the feature presentation at The Anthology Film Archives New Directors series. His second feature film, PLANET EARTH: DREAMS, (written by Richard Foreman) premiered in New York in 2004. Time Out New York said about the film, Mendels realization of Foremans script is like a philosophical poem. This beautiful film is a realized hallucination. His third feature, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MISS AMERICA is being presented online as an internet serial.

A long time collaborator with Hal Hartley he has been in Mr. Hartley's films, FAY GRIM, THE BOOK OF LIFE, NO SUCH THING, THE NEW MATHS, THE GIRL FROM MONDAY and in Mr. Hartley's theatrical debut, SOON, which premiered at the Salzburg Festpiel. He has also starred in Richard Sylvarnes THE CLOUD OF UNKNOWING and H.C.E both debuting at the Tribeca Film festival and most recently played the title role in Salvatore Interlandis, CHARLIE.
His plays MY DICK DONE BROKE and TOM DICK AND HARRY have been presented at The Ontological Theater. Other plays presented in New York, include: MUSEUM OF UNNATURAL SERIOUSNESS, WALK ON MY ROSE GARDEN and EXHAUST PIPES AND MANIFOLDS.
