Description
Fugues, Fantasy, and New Companions
Beethoven's Grosse Fuge shocked audiences with its intense compact expression and many surprises when it was premiered in 1825 during the composer's last years.  Phantasy Quartet, composed by a 19-year-old Benjamin Britten in 1932, still holds a position as one of the most important pieces for oboe quartet. As companion pieces to these two influential masterpieces, Left Coast has commissioned new quartets from American composers Melinda Wagner, Kristin Kuster and Sam Nichols.

Benjamin Britten, Phantasy Quartet for oboe and strings
Melinda Wagner, NEW WORK for oboe and strings
Beethoven, Grosse Fuge in Bb, Op. 133
Kristin Kuster, NEW WORK as companion piece to Beethovens Grosse Fuue WORLD PREMIERE
Sam Nichols, NEW WORK as companion piece to Beethovens Grosse Fuge WORLD PREMIERE
