Chekhov's Three Years, adapted for the stage
This unconventional love story with a Chekhovian twist is set in turbulent pre-revolutionary Russia, and reflects the eternal conflict between passion and reason. Oscar Wilde's quip, "the only thing worse than not getting what you want is--getting what you want" illustrates the condition of Chekhov's characters: they suffer if they are denied what they long for, but are profoundly disappointed when their dreams are realized.
