Learn to Evaluate Cider like a Pro
Cider Riot! founder and BJCP Master Blaster Abram Goldman-Armstrong walks you through tasting, evaluation, and judging of various styles of cider. Learn the difference between styles of English and American ciders by tasting through classic examples. Acquire a familiarity with cider defects and off flavors, and the characteristics that go into making world-class cider. The class will be geared for everyone from the novice to experienced cider drinkers. The cost of the class covers samples of cider and style description sheets. (how many ciders?) We will provide palate cleansing crackers but no dinner.

Oregon native Abram Goldman-Armstrong has been making cider since 1995, passed the Beer Judge Certification Exam at the National level at age 21 and has judged at numerous amateur and professional beer and cider competitions, including the Great American Beer Festival, Mondial de la Biere in Montreal, British Columbia Beer Awards, American Homebrewers Association National Homebrew Competition, Heart of Cascadia, Fall Classic, Widmer Collaborator, and the Portland International Cider Cup. Abram is the editor of Northwest Brewing News, his articles appear regularly in such publications as Ale Street News, and American Brewer. He took his passion for cider to the professional level in 2013, opening Cider Riot! an urban cidery dedicated to the production of flavorful and refreshing dry ciders.

Portland's largest cidery, Reverend Nat's Hard Cider has a mission to create dry and off-dry hard ciders in a wide range of styles from traditional and hard-to-drink to modern and highly quaffable using heirloom apples and other carefully chosen ingredients, all reflecting the historical position of hard cider in America and the bounty of the Pacific Northwest.
