The Pulse of the World
Journey into the heart of music and the soul of The Gambia For generations, West African music and oral history have been traditionally passed down through the family line of Griots (musicians, oral historians, praise singers, storytellers). It has been said when a Griot dies it's as though a library has burned to the ground. At the University of The Gambia, efforts are underway to attain the Griots' oral history and cultural knowledge from the respected elders of their society. A shared desire among the community of Brikama, the University History Club unites musicians and historians while blending the past with the present and upholding the idea that, with the onset of globalization, preserving one's own culture leads to the preservation of the entire world.

About Raven Film Center
The Raven Film Center brings independent and Hollywood films to Healdsburg, California. Serving locally sourced wines and specialty food before or during your movie. The Raven is proudly owned and operated by Dan and Amy Tocchini, lifelong residents of Santa Rosa. The Tocchinis' roots in Sonoma County film history go all the way back to 1924, when Dan Tocchini, Sr. opened The Strand, Santa Rosa's first-ever movie theater.

About Konteh Kunda - School of Music in Gambia
Konteh Kunda is the family compound of the famous Konteh griot family in the Sanchaba region of Brikama, Gambia's musical and cultural heart. Griots are hereditary musicians/historians/storytellers/mediators/entertainers/praise singers whose craft is passed down generation to generation, father to son, and mother to daughter. In Mandinka culture, the griot holds a very important part in society as they are the link between the past, present and future. This tradition is sadly starting to die out, and we don't what it to die.
