| Description |
| Town Hall Seattle is the only West Coast site chosen for the inaugural U.S. tour by the legendary Culture Musical Club of Zanzibar. The thirteen musicians and singer/dancers are Zanzibar's most famous exponents of taarab, the vibrant blend of the sounds of East Africa and the musical influences of the Arab world whose traders and sultans played a central role in this fabled island's history. A sound like none other, taarab includes violins, qanun (Arabic zither), uds (lutes), drums, vocals and accordion, along with rich vocals. The ensemble also performs kidumbak, upbeat music and song for dancing that is played at social events and full of wicked social commentary. The rising young Kenyan singer Amina is a guest for the performance. |
