MONSTERS! is a devised show by the members of Northwest Passage Theater Lab. It features live music by Falling Up Stairs, unprecedented destruction of pastries, horrible singing and dancing, vegetable throwing, and seven memorable monsters. Members of NWP's Theater Lab have been meeting weekly since summer to train in physical acting. MONSTERS! marks the first public performance by the seven members who make up that group.
MONSTERS! follows the story of a group of monsters who emerge from the walls to inhabit and explore the human world. Our aim was to create something completely different from the language driven plays most of us have been involved with for the last decade. To make sure that happened we took away the favorite tool of our actors and playwrights: words. MONSTERS! is a play without dialogue.
To make this monstrous clown show complete we solicited the help of one of our favorite Bellingham bands, FALLING UP STAIRS. Falling Up Stairs is not only an amazing live band, but in the past year they have become active collaborators in the Bellingham theater scene. Their spirit of improvisation, strangeness, beauty, and experimentation is the perfect match to score our strange and beautiful monster show.
