Mara Hruby transports you to another era with her warm raspy vocals.
Developing a strong identification to late jazz artists such as Billie Holiday, Curtis Mayfield, and Nina Simone at a young age, Mara's love affair with the elegance of that time period heavily influenced her essence as an artist. Referring to her old-school sense of style, she says, "I adore dressing in and nerdin' out in the history of that time. Billie Holiday is definitely a style icon, along with Dorothy Dandridge and people of that that nature."
The fiery jazz torch singer from Oakland, California has resurfaced to the indie-blues scene with her EP Archaic Rapture. The upcoming six-track offering is a melting pot of raw and sincere emotions the '40s-infused vocalist experienced after being cheated on with six different women.
"The best way to frame how that EP came about, was that I was grieving," she explains, referring to the inspiration behind the album. Pairing her soothing tunes with true R&B melodies, this standout songstress untangles her emotions for a glimpse into her broken heart. Mara's eclectic style and genuine soul transpire through her music, inviting fans to relate to her sultry vulnerability. - REVOLT TV
