Breaking Bread: A feast! A silent auction! Live music and dance! And a fundraiser for Somali Community Services of Seattle!

Feast Menu ~ Beverages Qahwe: Coffee with milk, cardamom and cinnamon Shaah: Spiced tea Mango yogurt smoothie Breads Muufo: Pan-fried semolina flatbread Lahooh: A spongy, pancake-like flatbread
Salads Fava beans, cucumbers, tomatoes, and herb dressing
Garow: a flavorful mixture of sorghum and fresh vegetables in a tangy dressing
Entrees Vegetarian: Lahooh and Lentils - Lentils sautéed with onions and tomatoes, spiced with cumin, then tossed with spinach, and served over lahooh
Beef Suqaar: Beef, finely diced, quick-fried, and served with vegetables in a richly flavored sauce
Soor with Maraq (Goat or Chicken): Polenta- like grits topped with a savory stew

About Somali Community Services of Seattle (SCSS): Founded in 1995, SCSS helps refugees, immigrants and their families acclimate to life in the U.S. With support from and partnerships with the City of Seattle, the Seattle Foundation, Seattle Tilth, Horn of Africa Services and many other organizations, SCSS has been able to offer services such as:
(for children and youth) after-school tutoring, summer programs, sports/recreation, and field trips, (for seniors) twice-weekly lunches, twice-weekly exercise sessions, and recreational outings, a computer lab,
child care, English as Second Language, civil rights and
emergency preparedness education,
case management,
translation, and
housing advocacy.
