DASSdance: Fighting Water
Langston Hughes Performing Arts Center Seattle, WA
Fighting Water is set on a rubber pond liner that encourages slip-n-slide entrances, exits and seemingly endless turns, yet has a grip that enables the dancers to move in the DASS signature All-Terrain style. The high impact athleticism of the dancers tumbling, flipping, sliding, and moving in lyrical and fast flowing agile articulation, will be showcased in a three dimensional environment of water projection that wraps the theater.
Sprays and showers of water delivered from a hot water heater run through hose and emitted through an elevated PVC pipe sculpture, sprinkler heads and sprays will further immerse audience senses in the tactile setting of the performance. Lights will cast a glow to create a breath-taking event inspired by the beauty of nature and produced for the cause of educating our audience about the conservation of water in a way that tugs on our emotions and leaves us inspired. With the help of Puget Soundkeeper Alliance, who will receive 10% of all project proceeds, Fighting Water will directly challenge the community to think about a necessary part of our life that should be viewed as fragile.
Fighting Water is multi media dance theater that tests the boundaries of set-design, physicality, and imagination and encourages audience members to consider the impact of human action upon the planet.
