EIGHTH COLORADO ENVIRONMENTAL FILM FESTIVAL
KICKS OFF FEBRUARY 21ST WITH BEST OF FESTS

The Colorado Environmental Film Festival (CEFF) will hold a "Best of the Fests" screening Friday Feb. 21, 2013 at the American Mountaineering Center in Golden with a curated selection of films from the festival's first eight years. The screening is free to the public with a suggested $5.00 donation at the door. A party at Mountain Toad Brewing will follow the last film at approximately 9 p.m. "This is going to be a celebration of the success of the film festival for eight years here in Golden," said CEFF board president Rocky Thompson. "We have been able to present more than 250 films during our festivals to audiences who come from all over the Front Range area to be inspired and motivated." There will also be an Environmental Photography Exhibition beginning at 6:00 with speaker Boyd Norton making a presentation at 6:15 p.m.

The Friday night lineup includes encore screenings of some of the award winning films from the past eight years. Dive, the feature film from director Jerry Seifert will be shown highlighting the benefits and perils of dumpster diving. Carpa Diem, Ride of the Mergansers and The Bill, a wonderful short from Germany will be featured. Irish Folk Furniture, a Sundance Film Festival winner from 2013 will be shown as well as more CEFF award winners from the past.

Saturday will be a big day at the Mountaineering Center. Free recycling by Perfection Tool and Computer Repair (no monitors please) will be accepting donations all day. Films will begin at 12:00 noon in two hour segments.

The 12:00 segment features a fun family friendly film, YERT (Your Environmental Road Trip):  Called to action by a planet in peril, three friends hit the road - traveling with hope, humor, and all of their garbage - to explore every state in America (the good, the bad...and the weird) in search of the extraordinary innovators and citizens who are tackling humanity's greatest environmental crises. As the YERT team layers outlandish eco-challenges onto their year-long quest, an unexpected turn of events pushes them to the brink in this award-winning docu-comedy. Featuring Bill McKibben, Wes Jackson, Will Allen, Janine Benyus, Joel Salatin, David Orr, and others.

In the 3:00 pm segment we will feature GMO  OMG. Jeremy Seifert, who directs this film, is in search of answers about how GMOs affect our children, the health of our planet and our freedom of choice. These and other questions take Seifert on a journey from his family's table to Haiti, Paris, Norway and the lobby of agra-giant Monsanto.

The Saturday night feature in the 7 p.m. segment is the Human Experiment. It's narrated and executive produced by Oscar-winner Sean Penn and directed by Emmy-winners Dana Nachman and Don Hardy. The film is about the high-stakes battle to protect our health from the thousands of untested chemicals in our everyday products. Denver based producer, Chelsea Matters, will be present for a post-film question and answer session.

In all three segments there will be short films to round out two hours of environmental films, with a live music and multimedia presentation by Laurie Dameron: What Can I Do following the first two segments Saturday.

A great feature this year is dinner and a movie. Several downtown Golden restaurants are offering a great deal on a special menu, three course meal and free entry to the film festival for just $50 for two.   Check the CEFF website for details, or call your favorite Golden restaurant to see if they are participating this year.

CEFF celebrates the power of film to inspire, educate and motivate audiences. The festival presents thought-provoking films and dialogue that raises awareness of a wide variety of interconnected ecological, social and economic themes.
