with Cherry Manhattan

Monday evenings, 7-9pm  Jan. 27-April 14, 2013  (no classes Feb. 17 & 24)
Finale showcase Wed. April. 23 at the Rendezvous' Jewelbox Theater, Seattle

Ever wanted to try your hand at burlesque, or see how it could build on your existing performance skills? Want to gain the competence and competitive edge of adding a new genre to your tool kit? Curious about creating your own burlesque alter-ego?

Learn everything you need to know to get started in burlesque in this 10 week workshop class taught by one of Seattle premiere burlesque personalities, Cherry Manhattan.  Each week you'll acquire new skills in the two-hour technique and exploration classes, as you are guided in creating a new burlesque character and building your own unique act.   Discover how to 'peel, pose and parade' your way around the stage while letting your creative impulses flourish as you gain mastery over being fully present in front of an adoring audience!

Throughout the course you'll get an introduction to the Seattle burlesque scene, participate in make-up, hair and costuming workshops, take fun field trips, meet performers, get glamorous in a pin-up photoshoot, and gain knowledge of the historical evolution of burlesque as an art form.  We'll address the fundamentals of what makes burlesque burlesque, how to work with music, and the ins and outs of business practices for starting out as a freelance cabaret performer.  Additionally, each student will receive one-one-one private coaching sessions to develop and refine your act, as we prepare you for a fully supported showcase finale performance at the Jewel Box Theater to debut your new personna and act!

You don't have to be an "actor" to enroll in this class, but the course materials and pace will be specifically tailored to those with previous performance experience.   Actors, dancers, movers, models, musicians, performers, and artists of all kinds will benefit from exploring the power, confidence and rush of creating and performing your own material in the Neo-Burlesque style!
