Steve Spurgin in Concert at the Western Trading Post
Steve Spurgin will be in concert at the Western Trading Post in Casa Grande on February 1st, 2014. Steve's musical career has covered miles and years, garnered awards, produced original songs that stand the test of time and earned a reputation that spans a large portion of the globe. Born and raised in Texas, he took influences from a rural heritage and the early folk music days and began weaving a tapestry that is varied and impressive. Along the way he has become friends and shared the stage with legendary contemporaries such as Don Edwards, Steve Gillette, David Stamey, Jann Browne, Mason Williams, Red Stegall, Byron Berline, Vince Gill, Chris Hillman and many others. He spent a portion of his career in the Nashville country scene as a staff writer for The Welk Music Group, penning songs for the publishing companies of Gene Watson and Reba McEntire. That association produced major country market hit songs and a BMI Writers Award. However, the drive to write and sing songs from the heart compelled him to launch a solo approach to his music. As a result, he has become a singer/songwriter that has never failed to stand out in his chosen genre of Western Americana. On stage, it always seems as if Steve's audience has been invited to sit down, relax and listen as if they were in their own living room regardless of the size of the venue. They are treated to songs that have depth, relevance, wit, humor, nostalgia and sincerity. There is nothing phony here. It is the real thing. It takes only a few moments to realize that his time on stage will be something to remember. That is the way Steve wants it. "Music has the power to alter a person's perception of life around them. The greatest moments I have personally spent have always seemed to involve music. As with any art form, it has the ability to hit your soul in unexpected ways, and every emotion possible call be brought to the surface by a song. There is something that is wonderfully healing about simply combining words and musical notes. My desire has always been to write and perform a song that will touch someone's heart in one way or another." In a world that seems far too occupied with flipping through and discarding whatever the current fads may be, it is a testament to the music of Steve Spurgin that it continues to endure certain to be here when the rest of us are gone.
