Description
Maria Gillespie presents her company, Oni Dance, in a new evening length dance theater work titled, Wasteland ( arrival .  Set in the round, Wasteland ( arrival, invites the dance viewer to participate in the meaning making with intimate proximity to the dance itself.  This dance is about grappling.  It is about arrival and about making sense of the unfamiliar territories whose borders are untested. The space; a dirt covered, torched wasteland, offers only desolation where the players experience boredom, waiting, parasitic dependence, repeating cycles, heaving, dirt, and exhaustion. After being thrown into a dystopia, the players inventory the site, their purpose, and are relegated to contact with the other contenders; their collaboration ultimately revealing the humor and the pathos that glue us together.  The architecture of a 4-sided perspective fortifies and complicates each character's winding path through the dance and all the cracks within the psyche.

Performers: Eva Aymami, Yiwen Chen, Nguyen Nguyen, Kevin Williamson.
Made in collaboration with Noellie Bordelet.
Dramaturge: Susan Josephs.
Sound Score: featuring music selections by Ginormous and Deru.
