"Mame"

"Mame" is a musical with the book by Jerome Lawrence and Robert Edwin Lee and music and lyrics by Jerry Herman. Originally titled "My Best Girl", it is based on the 1955 novel "Auntie Mame" by Patrick Dennis and a 1956 Broadway play, by Lawrence and Lee that starred Rosalind Russell. The madcap New York life of eccentric Mame Dennis and her bohemian, intellectual artsy clique is disrupted when her deceased brother's son Patrick is entrusted to her care. Rather than bow to convention, Mame introduces the boy to her free-wheeling lifestyle. Also figuring in the story line are Mame's personal secretary and Patrick's nanny, Agnes Gooch; her "bosom buddy" Vera Charles, the baritone actress and world's greatest lush; and Dwight Babcock, the stuffy and officious executor of Patrick's father's estate. Mame loses her fortune in the Wall Street Crash of 1929 and tries her hand at a number of jobs, with comically disastrous results, but perseveres with good humor and an irrepressible sense of style. "Mame" consists of touching numbers such as "My Best Girl" and "We Need A Little Christmas." It ran for 1508 performances on Broadway at the Winter Garden and Broadway Theatres starring Angela Lansbury, Beatrice Arthur and Frankie Michaels, and won three Tony Awards for Best Leading Actress, Best Featured Actress, and Best Featured Actor. It was revived on Broadway in 1983, again with Angela Lansbury starring as Mame Dennis.

"You won't want to miss Liz Norton premiering in her role as Mame Dennis," exclaimed Sandy Manfrin, Theatre on Main's General Manager. "This past Friday at our annual fundraising dinner, Liz sang "If He walked Into My Life" from the show, and she brought down the house it was just fantastic! We can't wait for everyone to see this production on stage!

Show dates/times are scheduled for December 13-15, 20-21, 2013; Fridays at 7:30pm, Saturday at 2:00pm & 7:30pm, 4:00pm Sunday (12/15). No show on Sunday 12/22.
