Sal Capone: The Lamentable Tragedy of Written by Omari Newton Directed by Diane Roberts
Presented by urban ink productions in association with Black Theatre Workshop
Sal Capone is a raw and edgy theatre piece that uses the elements of hip hop to tell a powerful story. Featuring a national and cross-cultural cast of hip hop and theatre heavyweights, it follows a group of friends caught in the aftermath of a police shooting.
Inspired by the loss of Fredy Villanueva, an unarmed youth shot by police five years ago in Montreal, Sal Capone is a dynamic work with a strong socio-political message. Its premiere in Montreal in fall 2013 received rave reviews for its hard-hitting and honest portrayal inspiring inter-generational dialogue.
