Description
The First Annual Common Folk Awards Celebration--recognizing stories seldom heard, of those nurturing the world through innovative peace education, arts, and media.

This family friendly event will be a beautiful evening of musical & dance performances, speakers, silent auction, and award presentations.

At 7:30 PM there will be a reception with appetizers provided by both Java Green and Bus Boys and Poets.  Then at 8:30 PM the official program begins.

Our first International Award Recipient goes to Mr. Andersen Sa from Brazil who was featured in the documentary film Favella Rising.  Our very first National Award is being presented to Climbing PoeTree a dynamic duo who this year launched a 40 city tour across the U.S. called Hurricane Season, focusing on raising funds for those still displaced from the ravages of Hurricane Katrina. The Local Award Recipient will be announced at the Awards Celebration.

The event is funded in part by the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities, an agency supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.
