DCTV PRESENTS

How to Learn, Break In and Rise Up in the Film and TV Industry with Anthony Artis

Presented by DCTV & Shooting People
Friday, December 5th, 7:30pm
DCTV, 87 Lafayette Street NYC

No one ever said breaking into the film/tv industry was easy, especially in the Big Apple, especially during a country's economic crisis!  For all these reasons and more, we can feel safe again with the advice of our friend Anthony Artis at DCTV.

The author of Shut Up and Shoot Documentary Guide and host of the Down and Dirty DV podcast and blog will deliver an inspirational and practical real-world overview of what it takes to break into the film and TV industry.  The wide range of topics to be discussed, include:  learning the filmmaking process, film school vs. self-teaching, specific film job resources for NYC, making the most out of your first job or internship, recommended reading, Los Angeles vs. New York, working in an industry office and overviews of common tracks to directing, writing, editing and producing films and TV.

If youve recently graduated from film school, or are looking to make a career transition, then this seminar is the perfect introduction into the world of film and TV.  Following Anthonys seminar will be a Q&A session as well as a book signing.

About Anthony Artis:
Anthony Artis is a 15-year veteran of the film and TV industry whose features and shows have been screened at the Tribeca Film Festival, the IFP Feature Market, Slamdance, and on MTV.  He has worked professionally in positions as diverse as producer, gaffer, cinematographer, special-fx make up, sound mixer and location manager.

Through the years he has organized numerous student film festivals and trained hundreds of aspiring guerrilla filmmakers for major institutions including New York University, New York City's famed LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts and Baltimore County Public Schools.  Anthony is presently an Adjunct Professor as well as the Manager of the Film and TV Production Center at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, where he coordinates the technical training and production equipment for all Film and TV students.  He remains an active guerrilla filmmaker, educator and "artrepreneur".

Praise for Shut Up & Shoot:
"Anthony Artis' The Shut Up & Shoot Guide is a good primer for the entry-level documentary filmmaker, presented in a breezy, down-to-earth vernacular style."
-Thomas White, Editor of Documentary Magazine, a publication of the International Documentary Association.

"I vouch for this book...extremely helpful for the newborn documentary filmmaker."
-Albert Maysles, Grey Gardens

"The book is a very easy, straightforward read with plenty of graphics to demonstrate proper and improper techniques.  It is also extremely user friendly in its layout. [It] will be helpful to you for many, many years to come."
