Description
New York, NY - Arts for Art presents a Gala Fundraiser to benefit the Community Development Initiative (CDI).  The primary goal of CDI is to create a Center for Innovation in Music, Art and Thinking. The CDI was conceived by a dynamic group of artists and creative thinkers to create a true artistic center for innovation situated in the Lower East Side.  This is the next step in a long legacy of innovative thinking that is associated with the LES.  We will utilize and strengthen existing ties within the creative community, while establishing new ties to innovative communities throughout the city, through networking, presentations, and education. The Center we build, and the creative communities we partner with, will feed and sustain one another and in turn strengthen the presence of innovation in NYC.

Through the generosity of the Mary Flagler Cary Charitable Trust, AFA has been offered a $100,000 Capital Reserve Matching Grant.  AFA will host an A-list fundraiser and performance event to raise funds to meet this match with the intention that this event will serve as a catalyst to make the dream of a center for innovative music, art and thinking a reality.

The event will welcome 300 to 400 of the most prominent artists, industry executives, and tastemakers in New York. Attendees will take part in a festive evening that will include stellar performances by innovative giants William Parker's the Inside Songs of Curtis Mayfield, Citizen Cope, Yerba Buena, members of The Roots, plus Burnt Sugar and friends.  There will be a raffle, dinner and an open bar.

The event will take place in December 15, 2008, from 7:30 pm to 11pm. The host committee will consist of AFA Board Members, Willie Mack, Salman Rushdie, Serge Becker, Tenzin Wild, Simon Hammerstein, Josh Lucas, Ben Pundole and others.
