An Evening of Satire, Silliness and Subterfuge!
ArtsWest and the Admiral Theater have joined forces to create a unique opportunity exploring the theme of political satire with a viewing of the iconic film Wag the Dog and a new play, The Taming, by award winning playwright Lauren Gunderson.
The Oscar nominated (1997) film Wag the Dog, starring Dustin Hoffman and Robert DeNiro, takes place before an election when a spin-doctor and a Hollywood producer join efforts to fabricate a war in order to cover up a presidential sex scandal.
Lauren Gunderson's The Taming dishes up a good heaping of Southern fried politics and begs the question: what do you get when you lock up together a liberal political activist, a conservative senatorial aide and a sparkly Miss Georgia? The answer is a hysterical political farce with all the crackle and tension that can be packed into one hotel room. The play begins at 7:30pm at ArtsWest followed by a lively discussion with director Tammis Doyle at approximately 9:45pm.
