ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. PLAY Conservatory brings a revival of one of its most beloved projects Captain Louie Jr. to the N4th Theater on October 26-November 3.
With music and lyrics byStephen Schwartz (Godspell, Pippin, and Wicked), book by Anthony Stein based on the children's book "The Trip" by Ezra Jack Keats, the play is directed by Jonathan Dunski, with choreography by Jessie DuBois and vocal direction by Shelly Andes.
Having just moved to his new neighborhood, young Louie feels lonely without any new friends. Looking for something to cheer himself up on Halloween Night, Louie takes an imaginary journey on the wings of his favorite toy, his little red plane, and returns to his old neighborhood where he and his old friends are reunited for some Halloween antics. The story is full of tricks and treats and the incomparable music and lyrics of Stephen Schwartz. Most of all, "Captain Louie" celebrates friendship making new friends and remembering old ones.
"This is Stephen Schwartz' love letter to fourth graders everywhere," says director Jonathan Dunski. "With a Halloween setting and a theme about friendship, the show is universally appealing to kids and adults. And the kids just love to sing it." PLAY Conservatory first produced Captain Louie Jr. (the New Mexico premiere) at Albuquerque Little Theater in 2010.
Public performances of Captain Louie Jr. go on October 26-November 3 Saturdays at 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm; Sundays at 2:00 pm at N4th Theater, 4904 Fourth St. NW, Albuquerque, NM 87107.
Running time is 55 minutes, and the play is appropriate for children ages 4 and up.
