Cultivating Mushrooms
Are you interested in growing gourmet mushrooms in your backyard? Join Dan Bensonoff and Dan Schenk to explore some of the basic techniques necessary for mushroom cultivation. We will learn about the life cycle of fungi, various methods of cultivation, and how mushroom cultivation can fit into a permaculture system. Together we will inoculate logs that you will be able to take home with oyster (Pleurotus ostreatus) and shiitake (Lentinula edodes) spawn that will fruit for many years to come. We will also discuss alternative methods of cultivation such as growing mushrooms in your garden or in your home.
About the Instructor:
Dan Bensonoff is a devoted foodie, gardener, and educator. He began his mycelial adventures as a child when he would go foraging with his grandparents. The beauty of mushrooms eventually led him to try his hand at cultivation. Currently, he can be found working in the fields at Drumlin Farm.
