Come experience the sunrise and sunset in Philadelphia's only James Turrell Skyspace at Chestnut Hill Friends Meeting. Evening viewings begin at sunset and last 50 minutes. Going from dark to light, Turrell created a different lighting experience for the morning viewings which begin 50 minutes before sunrise and end at sunrise.

The meetinghouse will open 15 minutes before the viewing starts and remain open 15 minutes after it is over. Guests are welcome to bring yoga mats and cushions if they would like to lie down on the floor or prop their heads up while sitting on the benches.

The viewing schedule varies with the seasons. It is expanded during the warmer months when heat loss is not an issue. Sunset viewings take place every Sunday evening all year round. Check the Register button below for upcoming sunrise, weekday sunset, and special event viewings.

The Skyspace experience, including roof opening, will only occur if the temperature is above 40F with no risk of precipitation. A 20 minute closed roof light sequence is presented if the roof can not be opened.
