ABOUT SEW WHAT:
For the past seven years, Erica Varize has taught a "Sew What" sewing camp to girls ages 8-13. "Sew What" gives girls creative inspiration and a chance to experience the real world of fashion. Students can learn language and terms of the industry, create a persona fashion portfolio, cut their designs, learn to sew by hand and machine and showcase their designs in a final runway fashion show.
For the first time, Erica Varize plans to take "Sew What" to Uganda and provide the experience to girls who would not otherwise have such an opportunity. Over the course of summer 2013, the Bay Area Sew What participants have been participating in Skype exchanges with their Ugandan counterparts as a way of fostering global community.
The cost of sending a girl to a "Sew What" camp is $500. All proceeds from this event will go towards "Sew What" Project Uganda!
