After nearly 20 years of performing the music of the Grateful Dead, Maine's very own Lazy Lightning has built a following and a repertoire that are hard to match among the scores of Dead tribute bands in America. Equally at ease when playing short, tight songs or loose, improvisational explorations, the band embodies the Dead's musical ethos and delivers an in-the-moment musical experience that is never the same twice.
Among club shows at the Franco Center last season, Lazy Lightning's song-by-song recreation in April of the Dead's epic Lewiston concert in September 1980 drew an audience second in size only to that of the Rustic Overtones show a week later.
While the band won't be tackling quite such an ambitious project for this show, they do plan to offer up a different batch of Dead tunes than the two long sets played last April.
