In the Kitchen with Grace Hearth: Picnic Fare
Join Grace Hearth for our first cooking class of the summer! We're excited to share our love and passion for nourishment with you! For this first class, we'll be focusing on fine-tuning your picnic repertoire...summer days are ahead and we want all of our people to feel empowered to bring deliciousness to outdoor feasts!!
We'll start in the kitchen with some hands-on cooking and instruction for all class members, and then we'll follow with a shared seasonal (and delicious!) multi-course dinner (most of which you have helped to prepare but with a few delicious surprises from us).
Class will take place at one of Oakland's newest commercial kitchens, the Uptown Kitchen in downtown Oakland.
All class members will help with the preparation of the following menu for our July 31st class. Included are some of our most requested recipes...this is gold, people, pure gold!!
-Sunflower Seed Pate with Seasonal Crudite -Raw Tuscan Kale Salad with Garlicky 'Crack' Dressing -BBQ Skewers (using Marin Suns meat and Hodo Soy Tofu) with a Roasted Stone Fruit BBQ Sauce (using apricots, peaches or nectarines) -Rich Chocolate Beet Cake with a Bittersweet Chocolate Ganache
We'll also provide some grainage in the form of buttermilk biscuits or polenta.
You'll learn all about seed soaking, artistic vegetable chopping, kale massaging, universal marinade making, skewer success, cake baking, ganache melting and all sorts of other stuff.
Students should bring an apron (or let us know cos we have exra!), wear close-toed shoes and bring their own chef's knife if they own one. If you'd like to bring any sort of libation to sip with dinner, feel free to do so!
Each class member will go home with recipes, a fully belly and plenty of inspiration to get creative in the kitchen this summer.
