Special Snap on 2&4 and Clinic w/ Andy Laverne
Join us on Saturday, July 6 at 8pm for the long-awaited return to the Jazz Cave of world-renowned pianist, composer, and arranger - Andy Laverne.
Mr. Laverne studied at prestigious schools including Julliard, Berklee, and the New England Conservatory, and was the student and protégé of the iconic Bill Evans himself. He has been a prolific recording artist, having released more than 50 projects as a leader. Laverne has worked with the legends of the music, including Frank Sinatra, Stan Getz, Woody Herman, Dizzy Gillespie, Chick Corea, Lionel Hampton, Michael Brecker, Elvin Jones, and numerous others. He is the recipient of five Jazz Fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the 2000 recipient of the John Lennon songwriting contest for his song "Shania".
A gifted educator, Laverne has authored several instructional books and DVD's and is Professor of Jazz Piano at the Hartt School (University of Hartford) and on faculty at the popular Aebersold summer jazz workshops. We're pleased to announce that he will once again be conducting an afternoon clinic focusing on composition for intermediate and advanced players. The clinic will be in the Jazz Cave from 1 to 3pm. Admission is $20 at the door. For the evening concert, Mr. Laverne will be joined by Roger Spencer on bass, Derrek Phillips on drums, and Don Aliquo on saxophone. Admission is $25 for adults; $15 for college and high school students with ID. Tickets will go on sale Monday, June 24 at 10AM and will be available online on this page, by phone 24/7 at Brown Paper Tickets (800-838-3006) or during business hours at the NJW office (242-5299). The Jazz Cave is a listening room, and we ask patrons to keep conversation to a minimum and silence cell phones. Audio and video recording is prohibited.
