2008 MilkBar International Live Film Festival

Noodle Factory Performing Arts Center
Oakland, CA

This September, Oakland's MilkBar and the new Noodle Factory Performing Arts Center in West Oakland are proud to co-present the 2008 MilkBar International Live Film Festival featuring experimental films and film collaborations that push the boundaries between filmmakers, animators, musicians, and performers from around the globe. The annual festival, now in its 4rd year, is curated and produced by Oakland's long-running MilkBar: Mary Armentrout, Merlin Coleman, and Ian Winters.  Special presentations include the US debut of work from St. Petersburg, Russia's Open Cinema Festival and the Finnish Love and Anarchy Festival, as well as a North American premiere of Russian animator Irina Eveteeva's breathtaking hand-painted live film / animation, world premieres of 5 groundbreaking new commissions from Bay Area composers and filmmaker, a line-up of many other favorite MilkBar film artists, a whole hour of installed  film and film/performance works at 7PM each night, plus free popcorn and great live music acts.

This year, for the first time, the festival is commissioning 5 new live music/performance/film works that explore the live performance world at the intersection of these media with work from local and international artists.  Our mission is to show great new work at the intersection of music, film, and, performance in an intimate artist friendly setting that promotes feedback and dialogue between audience and artists.  Supported in part by the Meet the Composer foundation, Zellerbach Family Fund and the Clorox Foundation  we have commissioned 5 Oakland-based contemporary/experimental music composers:  Matthias Bossi, George Cremaschi, Evelyn Ficarra, Dan Plonsey, and Merlin Coleman, to create and perform new music works for the festival in collaboration with other local and visiting experimental media/performance artists from Denmark, the UK, and Russia.

Note: See it all! 7 different shows plus installations from 7 to 8 PM every night. Purchase a festival pass for $40 -- save $55 to attend all the screenings, performances, live music and installations.www.milkbar.org for full program.
