Many have contemplated Lake Merritt to be a man made lake in the center of Oakland but here are a few facts about the watershed:
1. Lake Merritt is estuarine a mix of fresh and salt water. 2. Lake Merritt is not human made it was formed thousands years. 3. Lake Merritt is the nations oldest wildlife refuge 4. The lake is a climate buffer which moderates Oakland temperatures.
