Is Dustin Turner the Only Navy Seal Left Behind? Director's Passion for Justice Motivates Documentary Film RICHMOND, VA- J.D. Leete knows a thing or two about persistence and determination. The retired Special Warfare operator with elite forces in the U.S. Navy relies on these virtues as the driving force behind his investigative documentary Target of Opportunity: The US Navy SEALs and the Murder of Jennifer Evans. The film details the true story of the shocking murder case that left an innocent man, former Navy SEAL trainee Dustin Turner, sentenced to 82 years in prisonwithout parole. Leete spent 12 of his 21 year Naval career as a tactical communicator and SWCC, whose primary mission was to deliver SEALs to and from the target. "I was trained by the best operators in the world to complete the mission, never quit and leave no one behind. Whenever the thought of Dustin Turner sitting in prison comes to me, knowing what I know about the evidence and his role in the crime, I imagine a young SEAL left sitting on the edge of the jungle watching his brothers speed off without him. It haunts me." That unwavering commitment and diligence, along with a lifelong interest in filmmaking, led Leete to examine the 1995 Jennifer Evans murder case. What began as an exploration of the evidence turned in to a mountain of questions and an exhaustive investigation into the judicial system of Virginia. Even though another man confessed to the murder and to framing his "swim buddy", the Commonwealth of Virginia refuses to release Turner. Target of Opportunity unfolds the evidence and probes why the Virginia Court of Appeals and the Virginia Supreme Court will not exonerate Turner. By marrying his love of documentary filmmaking with his passion for justice, Leete promises he won't leave Dustin Turner behind until justice is served. His quest is to bring all the facts to light, and let the audience decide on Turner's fate. Leete adds "If the public determines that Turner should be incarcerated for the rest of his life for his actual role in the crime, so be itbut they should know all the facts. For some reason, the Commonwealth of Virginia has done their best to cloud and confuse their own citizens about what actually happened that fateful night." Target of Opportunity: The US Navy SEALs and the Murder of Jennifer Evans documentary will be shown at the Criterion Cinemas at Movieland, 1331 N. Boulevard, Richmond, VA at 7:00 p.m. June 13, 2013.
