CAFE ANTARSIA ENSEMBLE at the Chopin Theater's Pregnant Buffalo Lounge
The Chopin Theater celebrates the return of Art Institute playwriting faculty Ruth Margraff performing with Dallas-born Nikos Brisco and their Café Antarsia Ensemble (CAE).  Ruth Margraff's absurdist play ANGER/FLY opened to critical acclaim at Trap Door Theater last June; her STADIUM DEVILDARE premiered at Red Tape Theater this January directed by Chicago Opera Vanguard's Karen Yates.  Her Greek/Ottoman tavern opera THREE GRACES will open at Pivot Multi-Arts Festival June 20-22 at the Berger Park Mansion and her Café Antarsia Ensemble has been presented by Chicago's World Music Festival/Navy Pier, Chicago Cultural Institute, Viaduct, Silk Road, Chopin, Prop, Martyr's, Uncommon Ground, etc.  Composer Nikos Brisco is famous in Dallas for fronting the award-winning Fever in the Funkhouse, a leader in the 1990s Deep Ellum music scene.

CAE is thrilled to share this intimate artfolk concert with SAIC painter Baltazar Castillo who will create live art while they perform in one of the most beautiful rooms in all of Chicago as part of CAE's April album release tour including:

Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Poor David's Pub 8:00pm (Dallas, TX)
Friday, April 26, 2013 at Opa Coffee & Wine, 2050 South Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas 78704 8:00-10:00PM (Austin, TX)
Saturday, April 27, 2013 at The Forge Bistro (Ben Wheeler, TX)

Called "audaciously original" by The Moscow Times, Café Antarsia Ensemble performs nouveau gypsy music with roots in Greek blues, Arabic percussion and Americana cabaret.  Brisco's hauntingly urgent melodies are complemented by Margraff's panoramic and portrait-driven lyrics.  Margraff has been named "a singular voice" byThe Brooklyn Rail, and a "powerful voice in contemporary American theatre..." (The Telegraph, INDIA).
