5/30: An All Ages Summer Music Series
Open Circle Theater Seattle, WA
WHAT: 5/30: An All Ages Summer Music Series WHO: SafeCrush Productions WHERE: Open Circle Theater, 429 Boren Avenue N (Boren and Republican, one block west of Fairview, catercorner from ConWorks) WHEN: Fridays and Saturdays, at 8:00pm, {doors at 7:30}. July 30th - August 28th Safecrush Productions is proud to announce the inception of 5/30, a series of live performances of local bands, to take place at Open Circle Theater.
The series is composed of 30 bands performing, on Fridays and Saturdays, for five weeks, which is how the name is derived.
Bands include Vegas in Flames, The Riffbrokers, Grayface, Joshua James & the Runaway Trains, The All American Playboys, Mars Needs Women, The Master Musicians of Bukkake, Hating Hilary, J. Suffering (of Suffering and the Hideous Thieves) and more. All performances will be accessible to an All Ages audience. Shannon Layden, founder of SafeCrush Productions, got the idea for the series while talking with Jose Amador of Open Circle Theater, after a performance of OCT's Road Movie to Berlin, last November. "The space is simply suited for music, and it just seemed ridiculous not to schedule bands in there while the space sat idle over the summer," says Ms. Layden. "Seriously, I've yet to see an act sound bad in here," adds Mr. Amador. "Vegas in Flames played a set here last March that kicked ass. They could be heard in the alley." Open Circle is an intimate venue that seats just over seventy people, and there's room on the stage for dancing or just for standing around, if the mood strikes. As an all ages event, there will be no alcohol allowed on the premises so there will not be any bar chatter to contend with. "The space offers bands a flexibility that most other places don't," says Layden, "in that if you wanted to play a soft set, you can guarantee that the person in the last row will be able to hear it. The same is doubly true if the band wants to play loud." "I'd compare it to the Velvet Elvis space in Pioneer Square," says Sonny Votolato of Bugs & Amber and The Slender Means, "that type of intimacy, where people go just to listen to the music of their favorite band, or to check something out." The series lineup is as follows: July 30: Opening Night! Lobe, Old Ghost, Lake of Falcons July 31: Specs One, Jerry Peerson, The Broken Hearts,
August 6: J. Suffering (From Suffering and the Hideous Thieves), Grayface, Suntower August 7: Half Light, Joy Wants Eternity, Sonny Votolato and the Blue Checkered Record Player
August 13: The Riffbrokers, System and Station (from Portland), Vegas In Flames August 14: All American Playboys, Mars Needs Women (from Portland), Joshua James & the Runaway Trains (from Portland) August 20: DJ Night! DJ H2O, DJ Girl 6, DJ Niz (from Portland) August 21: The Master Musicians of Bukkake, AltaRego, Martian Memo to God August 27: Hating Hilary,
