Meany Bike Trip
Meany Lodge Seattle, WA
We will start our ride this year right at the Meany Lodge. We will ride the East side Iron Horse rail trail along Lake Keechelus to Hyak and then through the John Wayne tunnel. For those that wish to skip the 2.3 miles tunnel, you may wait and relax, or start on the way back to the lodge. Don't forget it is cool and dark, warm jackets and bike lights or a good headlamp are required. We will provide a pack lunch to take along with us so bring a small backpack and water bottle.
This is an easy flat ride and is intended for families and riders with at least moderate experience and fitness, though most beginners will be able to complete the roughly 15 miles round trip with no problem. Because the ride is on packed gravel, traditional road bikes are not able to be used. So a regular mountain bike, or cross bike with fat tires will be fine. Bikes equipped with trailers will work very well on this rail trail. There are several places to rest along the way, and with toilet facilities that are part the fantastic rail trail system. An excellent dinner and Sunday morning breakfast are provided, as well as a fun Saturday evening activities. We will do some short rides or hikes on Sunday morning and plan to leave the lodge for home around noon.
