Girls Rock!
Dirs. Arne Johnson and Shane King US 2007 Girls Rock! follows the journey of four 8-18-year-olds as they are transformed by the liberating powers of music at the Rock n Roll Camp for Girls. Youll meet girls like Laura, an articulate Korean girl from Oklahoma with wobbly self-esteem who is obsessed with death metal, Misty, who is emerging from a life of meth-addiction, homelessness and gang activity to play an instrument shes never seen, and 8-year-old Amelia, who writes songs about her Chihuahua Pippi and worries about not having any friends. Given the opportunity to bash the drums, wail like a banshee and take up space, the girls jettison gender stereotypes like old hats on their way to a joyous final concert that will change their lives forever.
Before the 7:15 show on Monday there will be a special appearance by Rock n Roll Camp for Girls alumni The As Ifs (6:30 - 7:00). Following the 7:15 screening, there will be a Q&A with the directors. Reps from Bay Area Girls Rock Camp will be present. (90m)
