HOW IT WORKS
1) Bring clothing you no longer want
- all sizes, styles, and seasons of men's and women's wearable goods welcome
- try stuff on, aka "play dress-up!"
- step into the photo booth to capture your good looks
- let loose, make friends and have fun
2) Leave with new-to-you gear!
- bring a bag or two to carry home your swap findings
- except for the real gems (which will we store for the next Glam Slam), all the left over gear will be donated to charity
MINNEAPOLIS--Saturday, April 14, 2013, 6:00-9:00 p.m., Gamut Gallery presents the spring installment of their biannual event Glam Slam. This is not an ordinary clothing swap; at this event, guests model swap-treasures in a professional photobooth. Everyone becomes part of the entertainment as their antics are documented to a hip, eclectic soundtrack provided by DJ Simone Du Jour. Professional hair and make-up stations will be provided by Salon Ori, all included in admission. Tickets are available at Gamut Gallery in downtown Minneapolis or at brownpapertickets.com $7.00 presale, $10.00 at the door. Guests enter through the gallery, where there will be a brief reception against the backdrop of Gamut Gallery's "Beyond Structure" exhibit. Ticket holders are then welcomed into the gallery's studio, the "Slam Factory", downstairs where the swap takes place. All guests' swap donations are folded and hung in the studio in an avant-garde, pop-up SWAP boutique. Guests are welcome to take home whatever they choose; all swap acquisitions are included in the price of admission. Glam Slam veterans have been known to instigate outrageous photoshoots, recruiting newcomers into off-the-wall outfits and hilarious poses.
Ticket holders will receive: entry to the party with live DJ and light refreshments; a convenient and fun way to donate clothing, accessories and outerwear of any size, style or season; access to professionally lit photobooth backdrops and props; photos by Satori Photography, available via facebook; access to Salon Ori's professional make-up artist station and hair stylist station; access to a private dressing room; and any swap goods they choose.
Glam Slam reflects Gamut Gallery's values of community, the art of the happening and eco-consciousness. Recycling clothing into a swap saves room in a landfill as well as resources for new garments. Bringing people together for happenings that create moments for diverse groups of people to interact with one another builds community. The gallery began with these intentions on June 9th, 2012, with a grand opening, multimedia event attended by over five hundred people and an official Northern Spark Festival location.
