David Berkeley in Concert at the Berkeley City Club Sunday October 21st
Called "a musical poet" by the San Francisco Chronicle and praised for his "lustrous, melancholy voice" by The New York Times, Santa Fe-based songwriter and author David Berkeley has been a guest on This American Life, won the Kerrville New Folk competition and ASCAPs coveted Johnny Mercer Songwriter Award. Berkeley has opened/toured with Adele, Mumford & Sons, Ray LaMontagne, Billy Bragg, Ben Folds, Don McLean, Dido, Rufus Wainwright, Joseph Arthur, Duncan Sheik, Colin Hay, Nickel Creek and Guster. He has performed on Mountain Stage, World Cafe, WFPKs Live Lunch, XM/Satellite Loft Sessions, Daytrotter, KCRW, WFUV, WXPN, KPFA and many, many more. His last project was a first of its kind: a novella of intertwining short stories and an accompanying album of songs, each sung from the perspective of the stories main characters. Like all of Berkeley's catalogue, this was an incredible combination that managed to both break and heal the heart.
David Berkeley comes to the beautiful Berkeley City Club to release his newest set of songs, a political EP entitled "The Faded Red and Blue." The songs speak to a variety of issues plaguing our nation and world today, and yet overall the collection is hopeful and even unifying. All ages and free to City Club members.
