| Description |
The Mancuso-Suzda Project, a dynamic and refreshing musical duo, consists of two artists from very different backgrounds who met through the website craigslist.org. The unique sound that they create has given them the honor of being called "purveyors of heady intoxicating jazz" (Andrew Malone, Washington Post Express). The Mancuso-Suzda Project will celebrate the release of their internationally acclaimed debut CD Lines at the Mansion at Strathmore (10701 Rockville Pike, North Bethesda, MD) on Wednesday, June 11th at 7:30PM. Two guest artists, local hip-hop sensation Christylez Bacon and the famous jazz vibraphonist Chuck Redd, will join the exciting duo.
The Mancuso-Suzda Project is currently finishing a position as artists in residence at the Music Center at Strathmore (www.strathmore.org). Both artists have achieved high praise from their respective musical communities. Simone Mancuso, Sicilian born, has received numerous international awards for his work in the field of contemporary classical percussion, while the local Washington D.C. Jazz community, as well such respected magazines as Downbeat, have recognized Jeff Suzda as a jazz musician of the highest level. Collectively, they have performed in Brazil, China, Romania, France, Italy, Japan, Switzerland, and Germany. Their exploration into new sonic combinations and possibilities has given their music the distinction of "performance art for the ears." From amplified cacti, water drums or gongs to a variety of wind instruments, this duo is creating a sound that fits neither totally in the jazz world, nor totally in the classical realm.
The group has received high praise both for their live performance as well as for their new disc. Andrew Malone of The Washington Post Express said that The Mancuso-Suzda Project played "one of the 10 best concerts of 2007." The groups debut album Lines was called "great and evocatively creative" by Ernesto D'Angelo for jazzcommunity.com.
The CD release party will be at the Mansion at Strathmore (10701 Rockville Pike, North Bethesda, MD) on Wednesday, June 11th at 7:30PM. Tickets are $10 and must be purchased from this website
