The lives of two controversial African-American historical figures are depicted in this pair of one-hour solo performances from the Black Repertory Group. Titubarecounts the real-life story of a 17th century slave who was among the first accused of witchcraft during the Salem witch trials. Awarded "Most Thought-Provoking" at the Carifiesta festival, Tituba was recently filmed by PBS for its documentary The Spark of the Salem WitchHunts. Nat explores the life and untimely death of Nathaniel "Nat" Turner, a 19th century Virginian slave who led a bloody slave rebellion that resulted in countless deaths, including, ultimately, his own.
Both these shows are dramatic and intense. These pieces have evoked emotions. Nat has been sold out to standing room only audiences in San Diego, New York and the Carribean.
TITUBA has toured colleges on the East Coast including YALE and Cornell. It was awarded the most thought provoking at the CARIFESTA in St Kitts,West Indes. TITUBA was filmed by PBS for its own documentary on The Spark Of The Salem WitchHunts.
