ClownSnotBombs' A Spaghetti Western The new frontier of circus takes San Francisco by the noodle
ClownSnotBombs' A Spaghetti Western is a circus adventure into the absurd that follows a band of travelers as they bring the power of pasta to the western frontier. This all new performance piece features a menu of circus with entrees of acrobatics, comedy, performance art, physical theater, circus skills, and original music. Artistic director Faeble Kievman describes A Spaghetti Western as "a totally unique experience for all ages that presents the circus and the west like you've never seen before." Eight characters travel westward, pursuing the american dream and leaving big piles of pasta in their wake. The story reveals the paradox of 'human progress;' the protagonists attempt to find a better life, but they inadvertently trample the land as they blaze their path west.
A Spaghetti Western was developed during an intensive 5 month creative process. Ensemble pieces in the show were created though the process of viewpoints, clowning, improvisation, and acrobatic exploration. The imaginative circus acts in the play were developed through a process of discovery, and they combine the use of traditional circus apparatus and new innovative elements constructed for this production, such as a stage coach, a fence, and a cactus puppet. Examples of acts you will see in the show include stilt acrobatics, aerial, club passing, unicycling, clown, mime, and more. Another unique feature is the original musical score and the presence of the musicians as central characters in the play. This production was created with the assistance of a Ca$h grant, administered by Theater Bay Area.
ClownSnotBombs is a circus company of eight multi-talented physical theater artists, acrobats, circus performers, and musicians. ClownSnotBombs was founded in 2006 in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina as a social circus and community group and currently based in Berkeley, CA. ClownSnotBombs believes joy and laughter are a fundamental human right and strives to bring quality, fun, and affordable entertainment and workshops throughout the Bay Area and beyond. ClownSnotBombs is fiscally sponsored by Living Dream Arts a 501c3 non-profit organization.
