Documentary Synopsis:
In the Dominican Republic, tourists flock to pristine beaches unaware that a few miles away, thousands of dispossessed Haitians toil under armed-guard on plantations harvesting sugarcane, much of which ends up in U.S. kitchens.

Narrated by Paul Newman, "THE PRICE OF SUGAR" follows Father Hartley, a charismatic priest, as he organizes the cane workers to fight for their basic human rights. THE PRICE OF SUGAR raises key questions about where the products the U.S. consumes originate, at what human cost they are produced, and where our responsibility lies, as individual consumers.

FYI - DUE TO THE SUBJECT MATTER OF THE DOCUMENTARY,
SUGAR will not be an ingredient in the menu for this evening.
