THE WOMEN GATHER
Join GRACE DRUMS in Concert for The WOMEN GATHER
A concert of African & Caribbean inspired Drumming, and Song celebrating women & girls, the families & extended communities that support them, over the very real challenge of emotional, physical & sexual abuse. We are celebrating victories. Victories such as making that important phone call to a help line, or leaving an abusive situation to go to a shelter, or letting a loved one know what is really going on. In this celebration of courage, we are also acknowledging the women & men, staff, volunteers, & organizations working tirelessly to support a person or family's movement out of abuse, toward self-determination & personal transformation.
The six women group will be performing on Saturday April 20th, 2013, at 7PM at the Actor's Fund Theater, 160 Schermerhorn Street, in Downtown Brooklyn. Grace Drums will also be joined by masterful guest artists, including shakere Master Yayodele Nelson of Women of the Calabash, percussionist Vivian Warfield, singers Rosa Russ and Judith Pierre Charles, and young poets from Arts East NY. Tickets are $20 for general admission and $15 for seniors, groups and students. Children under 6 are free.
This concert is in partnership with Black Women's Blueprint & NYC Alliance Against Sexual Assault.
This program is sponsored, in part, by the Greater New York Arts Development Fund of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, administered by the Brooklyn Arts Council (BAC), The Puffin Foundation, and donors like you.
