Casino bootcamp with Amanda and Adrian!
Amanda Gill, director of DC Casineros dance company (and former Rueda de Casino instructor for Masacote Dance School), will be returning to Boston to give a boot camp series of classes on Saturday February 23. This time she will be accompanied by her dance partner Adrian Valdivia. The two classes will be from 12pm to 2:30pm and will be held in a beautiful room at 175 Richdale Avenue in Cambridge (just a short walk from Porter Square).


Schedule of Classes:

12pm-1:15pm
Intermediate Rueda de Casino Moves: This class will introduce one fun classic and one challenging unique group move for intermediate Rueda dancers. Pure Rueda fun!!!

1:15-2:30pm
Intermediate Casino Partnerwork: Have fun learning how to dance casino one-on-one using optimal stepping, body positions, and leading/following skills with your partner. Amanda's teaching methodology and practice is based and modeled after the International Foundation "Casino Para Todos" curriculum.

*Intermediate level students are required to know a minimum of the following calls: Guapea, Dame, Enchufla, Adios, Vacila, Sombrero, Setenta


About Amanda Gill:
Amanda is President and Artistic Director of the DC Casineros dance company (www.dccasineros.org). Amanda has been teaching and performing Cuban Salsa since 2005. She recently taught and performed Casino dance at the Nicaragua Salsa Congress with her dance partner Adrian Valdivia. She has trained with dance masters Aramis Pazos and Oscar Rousseaux and trained in dance at the Instructors Arts School in Havana, Cuba in 2004.

Amanda travels periodically to Santiago to train with Cutumba in Haitian dance and with Yanek Revilla in Casino styling. She founded DC Casineros dance company in 2005. They dance the roots of Cuban Salsa and perform popular and religious dances, including Son, Rumba, Yoruba, and Congo/Fon-based traditions. Amanda is a Registered Dance Therapist, and currently works on creating dance therapy methods that utilize social dance as a means to heal.

About Adrian Valdivia:
Co-founder and co-director of DC Casineros, Adrian has been dancing and performing Cuban Salsa for seven years, and teaching classes infused with Afro-Cuban dance for the past four years. He won first place in the couple's competition in Miami Rueda congress of 2009. Adrian has traveled internationally to participate in the major Rueda de Casino and Afro-Cuban dance conferences.
Born in Venezuela, Adrian grew up in a family of dancers and musicians, which heavily influenced his love for the arts. Adrian currently trains under the guidance of Afro-Cuban dance teachers Oscar Rousseaux and Aramis Pazos. He teaches Rueda de Casino at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. His casino style emphasizes the power and intricacies of son, rumba, and orisha dances.
