:: 2 teams of 3 writers sweating it out for arbitrarily awarded points in made-up games of literary ridiculata ::
The staff's been talking trash for months. Tonight, they'll finally get their chance at glory.
We'll have three of our wittiest staff members take on three writers who aren't afraid to challenge them without home court advantage. As always, the points are arbitrary, the bar is open, and the pizza is plentiful.
$15 = pizza, open bar, shenaniganery of the highest brow.
Our teams, this round:
The Booksellers
Lauren Gallagher. Lauren spent the better part of her 20's forging signatures for Mick Jagger, Ozzy, Cher, and turning down job offers from Morrissey while spending entirely too much time in the smoky rock and roll basements of London. Her rehab successful, she now works at The Booksmith and the S.F. Examiner, and spends most of her spare time in other bookstores or at the Main Branch of the public library in a sunny window with a Ball jar of cold gin.
Carolyn Ho. Carolyn amuses herself by writing about her mother. Often. Aside from being really smart and good looking, Carolyn was also in several McDonald's commercials in the late 80s. She currently writes elderly erotic poetry and can walk through walls, using doors.
Kelly McInerney. Kelly is amazing! Bam! When she isn't busy being amazing and brilliant at the Booksmith, she's most likely busy doing it somewhere else, like her MFA program at SF State, or even just walking down the street. She's worked as an editor for Fourteen Hills: the SFSU Review, writes and translates poetry just to make sure those bills get paid and dabbles in existential inquiry and insomnia just for fun.
The Others
Nato Green. Nato Green was summed up more or less accurately by The East Bay Express as, "erudite and acerbic, a San Francisco-raised father, union organizer, gastronome, bibliophile, and political sparkplug." Nato wrote for Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell on FX. He recently released his first comedy album, The Nato Green Party, through Rooftop Comedy.
Ken Grobe. Ken Grobe has written ever so many things: award-winning advertising, short stories for Penguin anthologies, magazine articles for various pubs, articles on User Experience for WANT MAGAZINE (which he co-founded), and sketches and videos for SF's Killing My Lobster comedy theater. He's also edited and translated graphic novels. But he always has time for you. You know that.
Shannon O'Malley. Shannon O'Malley is the author of Apocalypse Cakes: Recipes for the End -- a "cookbook" of recipes for treats such as Global Warming Hot Apple Pie, President Palin Half-Baked Alaska, BP Oil Black Bottom Cake, and other delights. Her new book, Gay Men Draw Vaginas, contains 100 vag draw
