Young Ireland with Kyle Alden & Athena Tergis at Santa Clara University
Irish folk music duo Young Ireland joins with celtic music veterans Kyle Alden and Athena Tergis for an evening of Irish Traditional and Folk Music on Friday, March 8, 2013 at the Santa Clara University Recital Hall.  All ages are welcome.  This special event in-part benefits the fight against children's hunger in Haiti through Te Soley, a San Francisco based 501c(3) charity.

Athena Tergis has toured the world with the likes of renowned box accordion player Sharon Shannon and sax player Clarence Clemmons (The E Street Band).  Athena starred in Lord of the Dance in Las Vegas and became the principal fiddler for the Broadway production of Riverdance.  Having recorded and performed with an A-list roster of Irish musicians including Mick Moloney and John Doyle, she was featured along with The Green Fields of America in the award-winning documentary on PBS "Absolutely Irish!" produced in 2007 by Paul Wagner.  Athena was a featured soloist in the 2009, USA tour with the Dublin Philharmonic Orchestra as well as the orchestra's recent tour of China.  Athena currently lives in the village of Montalcino in Tuscany, central Italy.  www.athena.cd

Kyle Alden is a singer/songwriter/guitarist best known for his award winning folk music settings of W.B. Yeats' poetry. With roots in the San Francisco Irish music community, Kyle has played guitar accompaniment for top Irish musicians in concerts, dances and sessions across the country and in Ireland since the early eighties.  Active in traditional-based acoustic music, Kyle currently performs with the traditional Irish band The Gas Men and Irish/Americana combo The Mild Colonial Boys, in addition to duos with Athena and others.  www.kylealden.com

Young Ireland is a newcomer to the Irish music scene, based in San Luis Obispo.  "Authentic!" hails the New Times of San Luis Obispo.  Diane Byrnes, veteran Irish radio host ("Echoes of Erin" in Pittsburgh, PA) says, "Huge success is just over the horizon for 'Young Ireland' and for those who love Irish music, 'Young Ireland' is a testament to the strength and musicality of the 'song'."  First and second generation Irish Americans with County Mayo roots, this father-son duo writes and performs original songs reflecting the spirit of the Irish struggles and traditions in both Ireland and America from the 1600's to modern day.  Their acoustic music is driven by "skillfully crafted ballads and delicate harmonies in a richly Irish tradition."  At age fourteen, Michael O'Hara sings with the "heart of an old soul."  www.youngirelandmusic.com

Te Soley is Haitian Creole for 'The Land of the Sun'.  This San Francisco based 501c(3) charity funds specific projects in Haiti to support needy children and families, trash disposal, education and agricultural projects.  Te Soley starts projects with the ultimate goal of having them become self-sustaining ventures.  www.tesoley.com
